People with disabilities make up at least 19 percent of the U.S. population or 54.4 million people. The goal of the NCDJ is to provide support and guidance for journalists as they cover people with disabilities.

Disability Language Style Guide

The NCDJ publishes a disability style guide in English and Spanish for journalists and professionals who report or write about disabilities.

Training sessions available

The NCDJ conducts training for journalists and other professionals who want to improve their coverage of disability. Sessions can be tailored to meet different needs, but basic training addresses issues related to language choices, framing of disability stories, selection of visuals, and interviewing people with disabilities.

Sessions can be conducted virtually or in person. Fees vary.
