John R. Hudson dies; quadriplegic championed the disabled

John R. Hudson, 62, a social worker who devoted his career to support and rehabilitation for the disabled after a diving accident left him a quadriplegic as a young adult, died of respiratory arrest Dec. 9 at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital in Fairfax County.

Disability Language Style Guide

The NCDJ publishes a disability style guide in English and Spanish for journalists and professionals who report or write about disabilities.

Training sessions available

The NCDJ conducts training for journalists and other professionals who want to improve their coverage of disability. Sessions can be tailored to meet different needs, but basic training addresses issues related to language choices, framing of disability stories, selection of visuals, and interviewing people with disabilities.

Sessions can be conducted virtually or in person. Fees vary.
